‘Batman Arkham Series to be Released on Nintendo Switch this Autumn’
Warner Bros. Games has announced that the Batman: Arkham Trilogy, featuring Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight, along with all previously-released DLC, will be available on the Nintendo Switch this fall. Turn Me Up Games, known for their work on Switch ports for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and It Takes Two, will handle the adaptation, although no Switch-specific features have been mentioned.
Arkham Asylum focuses on Batman’s fight against the Joker and allies as they take over the game’s eponymous asylum. Arkham City expands the battle to Gotham and includes more classic villains like Mr. Freeze and The Penguin. Arkham Knight adds its titular supervillain and introduces a more open game world that includes a drivable Batmobile.
For the most part, all three games earned a reputation for engaging stories and multi-player gameplay that included combat, stealth, and puzzle solving. The fights were a particular highlight – you were rewarded for executing seamless combos while dodging opponents who could come from multiple directions at once. The series arguably popularized the combat formula that has appeared in games from Spider-Man to Shadow of Mordor. Throw in the voice actors of the animated Batman series (like Mark Hamill and the late Kevin Conroy) and it’s easy to see the fan appeal of the caped hero.
This doesn’t excite Switch fans who were hoping for a version of Rocksteady’s upcoming Suicide Squad game. This is more of a bid to reach an untapped audience than it is to set the stage for the studio’s first new game in nearly eight years. However, you might not care if you’re new to the franchise or want to return to the series. If nothing else, it can serve as a palate cleanser for those who thought Gotham Knights missed the mark.
